tolabor trained Birth Doula In Pursuit of Certification
I'm Amber Holzhey, and I love growing families. As a nanny for 14 years, I served families as their children grew. Now as a doula, I serve families as they meet their newest members.
My husband and I have been blessed with one son so far. He was born via cesarean after an induction at 42 weeks. During my labor, I experienced unmedicated labor, pitocin labor, and an epidural. His birth wasn't what I wanted, but I believe that in the end, he knew how he needed to be born.
During my pregnancy with my son, I knew I wanted to hire a doula to help us achieve the type of birth that we wanted. My husband took some convincing, but because of his reluctance, we ended up being surrounded by a wonderful group of doulas that educated us, supported us, and uplifted us when our son's birth didn't go how we had hoped it would go. Being surrounded by such amazingly supportive women is what sparked my interest in working as a doula and what ultimately lead to me training and pursuing certification with toLabor.
I believe that our bodies and our babies know what to do when it is time for them to be born, but I also believe that every woman has the right to have the type of birth that she wants for herself. My job as a birth doula is to help families make educated decisions about what type of birth is best for them and to help them navigate labor and delivery. As a sibling doula, I'm there to help the youngest members of a family understand birth in an age appropriate way and help them feel valued and involved as they greet the newest addition to their family. In both roles, I want every member of the family to feel involved, loved, and cared for.
