Hello! My journey to becoming a doula has been a long and winding road that began with the birth of my firstborn 5 years ago. The birth I had planned in my mind was not to be, and I gave birth via a planned cesarean without ever experiencing labor. As a first time mom, this experience led me to seek out a different path for my future pregnancies. I sought out a doula for my second pregnancy. With her encouragement and support, I decided to pursue a VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean) for my second pregnancy. My second child was born via VBAC, and it was a healing experience from my first birth. Once my third pregnancy came around, I knew a natural medication-free VBAC birth was what I wanted. I gave birth to my third child the way I had always dreamed about with my loving husband and my amazing doula by my side.
I did my birth doula training through DONA International and am pursuing certification through their organization. As a doula, I am here to support whatever birth plan a family wants and to help them to be empowered to advocate for themselves during their pregnancy and labor. I will attend and support births at hospitals, birth centers, and at home. I feel the best place for a women to labor is where she feels most comfortable and supported. My role does not replace that of a father or partner, but rather to support both the laboring person and their support person.
I am also a current co-leader of ICAN of Omaha (International Cesarean Awareness Network) and am passionate about VBAC access for all mothers who want one. It is an organization I am proud to be part of and influenced my decision to become a doula. I have breastfed all of my children for at least a year and love helping moms in whatever their breastfeeding goals may be for their family.
